Forty-five years after he was expelled from his village in the Syrian Golan Heights, Mustafa steals across the Israeli border with the help of a local smuggler. This is a one-way trip for Mustafa, as he contemplates the end of his life.
Ehab Tarabieh (b. 1981) was born in the Golan Heights. He has spent time on both sides of the border, studying classical violin at the Damascus Conservatory for Classical Music, and later graduating from JSFS. His short Smile and the World Will Smile Back premiered at the Berlinale Shorts (2014) and was nominated for the European Film Awards 2015. His most recent documentary Of Land and Bread Screened at IDFA (2019).
